The Historical City – Chandrapur

                     The city of Chandrapur is located in the eastern part of the state of Maharashtra. The named Chandrapur comes from the words Chandra (the moon) and pur (a settlement). The city was founded by Gond king, Khandkya Balla Shah in 13th century. The purpose of constructing this fort was to protect the kingdom from the enemy attack. Reach colossal ruins fascinating archaeological remains and famous religious monuments are the part of today’s Chandrapur city. The people of chandrapur loves to eat hot and spicy gravies. The most famous dish is vagyacha bharit and bhakar tukda. This place is mainly known for Adivasi and Gondal people.

  • Mahakali Temple

The prominent temple is also the centre of attraction of the tourist as it is the icon and pride of the city. There were two idols in the temple one is standing idol which is associated with Shiv Ling and the another is below the ground level where devotes have to walk inside the tunnel. The temple is crowded by the pilgrims mostly in the month of April, on the eve of Hanuman Jayanti. Tuesday is consider as the most prominent day of worship. Temple authority made lots of arrangements for the devotees to help them stay near the temple.

  • Tadoba National Park

The Tadoba National park is the largest park in Maharashtra. Jungle safaris are the main attraction at the Tadoba National Park. The total area of the reserve is 625.4 square kilometers. It is famous for unique Eco-system and natural heritage. It has best forest tracks and awarded with rich biodiversity. Tadoba national park is the second tiger reserve of the state of Maharashtra. February and May is the ideal timings to visit this park. Interestingly, around 90,000 people visit this park annually.

This is one of the coal based power plant of “MAHAGENCO”. Durgapur and Padmapur collieries of the Western Coalfields Limited are the main source to provide coal to the power plant. This is the largest power plant in the Maharashtra with the total capacity of 3340MW.

  • Anandwan

  • DeekshaBhoomi

Deekshabhoomi is consider as a sign of affection of the Buddhism. After the independence of India Dr B.R Ambedkar gave Deeksha to many followers at a place in Chandrapur and Nagpur since then that the place is called Deekshabhoomi. Rajabhau Khobragade, a barrister established the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Arts, Commerce and Science on the Deekshabhoomi premises. A transplanted branch of the Bodhi Tree (a sacred fig from Bodh Gaya) is growing at the Deekshabhoomi.
