“Feed the planet and it will nourish you. Destroy it and see what unfolds.“
Yes, it’s high time now. Our planet is on the verge. Deforestation, water wastage, plastic all around, animals getting extinct and so on. We are losing our ecosystem balance and only one responsible for all this. Humans yes, we humans. If we don’t do it now, if we don’t save our planet Earth, we are putting our lives into danger. Let’s conserve what future generation deserve. Let’s talk about our lungs, no not actually ours but the ones who provide more than 20% oxygen to the planet and are home to about 10% biodiversity, Amazon Rainforest.

About: –
Covering much of northwestern Brazil this is world’s largest tropical rainforest. One in ten known species in the world lives in Amazon, the biodiversity there is huge. Imagine what we humans have done to the place providing more than 20% of Earth’s oxygen. Yes, deforestation. This is one of the major reasons of the fire recently broke in Amazon.
August 2019: – What happened and why?
The Amazon rainforest has been on fire for the past month. The fires destroyed many tribes and millions of species. There were so may fires that smoke was visible from space. People all around took this to social media and even came on streets to protest and eventually leaders developed plans to help put out fires. For farming or other such activities, fire was often used to clear out the land and this proved to be the major reason. These fires apart from destroying our major rainforest also results in more greenhouse gases emission and thus a major factor for increased global warming and a change in rainfall patterns. We didn’t even know about these fires until NASA released pictures capturing smoke all around and stated facts about carbon monoxide levels.

Actions taken: –
Many international emergency meetings were held and finally military was sent to fight battle which is a very complex operation. The good news is finally people are getting more and more aware towards conserving our environment and this may finally give fruitful results. But we need majority and not just few hands because together we can and together, we will. Amazon rainforest is just one example and if we don’t act now, we all will be in danger. We have ruthlessly exploited our environment and now only we humans can protect it.

Do your bit: –
- Just stop using plastic.
- Grow more and more trees.
- Install rainwater harvesting devices.
- Conserve electricity & water.
- Go ecofriendly on festivals.
- Say no to crackers and yes to diyas this Deepawali.
It’s high time now, we all should join our hands and start acting instead of just saying things. Spend time in gardening, reuse things as much as you can and I’m sure this world will be a better place for all of us.
